Leeds United senior players react to latest Michael Skubala news at Elland Road

Senior players at Leeds United are understood to have backed the decision to keep Michael Skubala in charge for Whites’ upcoming fixtures, according to Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross.

The board confirmed on Tuesday evening (13 February) that the under-21s boss would remain in charge for the foreseeable future as the quest for the club’s new head coach goes on.

Cross has since revealed the players’ stance on the decision to keep Skubala in charge at Elland Road.

“Senior members of the playing staff are already understood to have backed the decision to keep Skubala in place based on last week’s progress,” wrote the Leeds Live journalist (15 February).

Smart call

Keeping Skubala in charge for the next couple of games seems like a smart move from the board. They’re winnable fixtures against Everton and Southampton and having some continuity could well give Leeds the best chance of picking up what would be a priceless six points.

The manager hunt as a whole has been far from convincing and the decision to keep Skubala at the helm has given Victor Orta a little bit more time to make the right appointment. The sporting director would probably be content with the under-21s boss taking the job until the end of the season if it meant Leeds’ Premier League survival was secured.

The summer could prove to be a much happier hunting ground for the Whites’ board in their search for a new permanent boss. A number of the managers they have targeted are all performing well in their current roles and are reluctant to jump ship halfway through the season.
