Leeds United send scout to watch high-profile European clash ahead of January transfer window

Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and a number of Premier League clubs reportedly sent scouts to watch Ajax take on PSV over the weekend.

According to 90Min [7 November], most clubs kept an eye on PSV attacker Cody Gakpo, who has been linked with a move to Elland Road over the summer.

However, players like Ibrahim Sangare and Erick Gutierrez, along with former Barcelona and PSG starlet Xavi Simons were being tracked by some English top flight clubs.

Ajax duo Edson Alvarez, as well as Mohammed Kudus, were understood to be on the radar of a few scouts.

Move on from Gakpo

Gakpo would be an ideal player for Leeds as they need a reliable scorer who can give them around 10-15 league goals every season.

He has been likened to Robin van Persie and Cody Gakpo [Mirror] so it’s fair to say that his stock is on the rise and he’s also enjoyed a sensational 2022/23 with 21 goals and assists in just 13 league games.

However, with the number of clubs keen on him and certainly sides like Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal will be able to offer more money than Leeds.

Sangare and Gutierrez are both midfielders and the Whites brought in Marc Roca and Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson who can be billed as an attacking midfielder.

It could be that Simons was possibly looked at by the Leeds scout as he would be an interesting prospect for the club.

However, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven have plenty of talented players as they are two of Eredivisie’s best teams and were fighting for top spot in this high-profile clash.

There’s a good chance that few players under the radar were actually being looked and that’s good scouting as it will see clubs pick gems that are not in the public eye yet.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could now be looking to sign an award-winning Ligue 1 ace to bring to Elland Road in January.
