Leeds United: Ross McCormack reacts to footage of him with away fans at Sheffield Wednesday

Ross McCormack has hailed the Leeds United players and fans after having a “great night” in the away end at Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Whites striker reacted via Twitter after supporters shared footage of him celebrating with them on the concourse at Hillsborough after Daniel Farke’s side picked up a vital 2-0 victory on 8 March.

The Scot was seen leading the songs in celebration of Junior Firpo who bounced back from a difficult first half to deliver an excellent assist for Patrick Bamford in the dying seconds of the first half which changed the course of the game.

McCormack wrote in response to the video: “Ex player having a great night watching his team. Nothing to see here. Boys were superb. And the fans were better.”

It was ultimately a great night all round for the Whites, and has now been made all the better by Ipswich’s dramatic 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City a day later.

Daniel Farke’s side remain second in the Championship, two points behind leaders Leicester, thanks to goals in the 95th and 100th minutes in South Wales.

The two results could prove pivotal in such a tight race for automatic promotion and the second tier title, with Leeds United the form side at the top.

Goals from Bamford and Willy Gnonto were enough to down a battling Owls side and keep the momentum up.

So it was no surprise that McCormack was enjoying himself with the travelling fans, and will be feeling even better about the state of the promotion race now.

The final day clash with rivals Southampton has been tipped as a huge decider but on current evidence Farke might be able to avoid the stress of such an occasion.
