Leeds United: Rodrigo could return in Premier League showdown v Aston Villa

Leeds United finally return to Premier League action this weekend as they welcome Aston Villa to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon to kick off October.

Jesse Marsch will have welcomed the time off with the likes of Junior Firpo, Adam Forshaw, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling all getting back into the swing of things after injury issues.

Injury expert Ben Dinnery has shared yet more good news, with Rodrigo potentially returning after picking up that shoulder injury against Everton at Elland Road.

Sharing the news on his website, Premier Injuries, the expert still has the Spanish international down as “Ruled Out” although that could quickly change.

Marsch admitted that his side were looking after the international break to get Rodrigo back available, with his potential return date still slated for Sunday (02 October) by Dinnery.

One player who is definitely out is obviously Stuart Dallas who continues his recovery from the long-term absence.

Should Rodrigo return, Marsch will have many decisions to make.

This could be the first time we see a basically full-fit squad, minus Dallas available to the American, so it will be interesting to see what he does.

If it was solely on form, the Spaniard may get the nod, but based on freshness and who is ready to go, Patrick Bamford will most likely get the nod with Joe Gelhardt and Wilfried Gnonto ready to come on.

There are also big headaches at the back potentially, but good ones, with Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen available, as well as Cooper and Firpo to come back in if needed.

It feels ages ago, but changes are definitely on the cards after that heavy defeat at Brentford which certainly needs to be put right by the Whites.

Rodrigo would offer Marsch so much more if he was available, so fingers crossed for that one with official team news only around the corner as football returns for Leeds almost one month after our last outing.

In other Leeds United news, the club should avoid a £31.5m deal for this PL winger after reports linked him with Elland Road
