Leeds United retained list timeline shared at Elland Road amid exit speculation

Leeds United are set to publish their retained list at Elland Road towards the “back end of next week”, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported on Tuesday (4 June) that the Whites will confirm which players will be departing when their contracts expire at the end of June after Daniel Farke’s side missed out on promotion.

Five first-team players’ futures remain up in the air currently with Cody Drameh, Jamie Shackleton, Liam Cooper, Sam Byram and Ian Poveda all without a contract beyond the end of this season.

Replying to a supporter on the Leeds Live website (4 June) he said: “We’re told it’s likely to be published at the back end of next week.”

Has Liam Cooper left Leeds United amid transfer speculation?

Leeds United have certainly left it late to announce who will be staying and who will be leaving Elland Road this summer, but that likely means the Whites are taking their time to ensure they don’t make any decisions they could regret.

It has almost become accepted that both Drameh and Poveda will depart the club this summer having spent portions of the season out on loan and it would be a massive surprise to see either start offered a contract extension at Thorp Arch.

The jury remains out on Cooper’s future as although the Scottish international is understood to be keen to pen new terms under Farke, the indication from within Elland Road is that he will be one of those to make way.

Shackleton’s situation remains slightly less clear than his teammates. When fit, the 24-year-old has been a regular feature of Farke’s squads this season, but a combination of fitness and injury issues have seen him rooted to the treatment table.

Hopefully, all will become clear sooner rather than later so that the Whites can begin to start preparing for another promotion push next season.

In other Leeds United news, a stumbling block may have now emerged in the Whites’ push to sign West Ham’s Ben Johnson
