Leeds United relegation clauses now widespread as cut-price exit emerges for big-money star
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson doesn’t think Leeds United have shot themselves in the foot after a number of relegation clauses emerged at Elland Road.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported on 20 June that Rodrigo has a £3million release clause in his contract following the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League.
Despite a number of players potentially leaving on cut-price deals, Robinson has suggested this is widespread in the modern game.

“There’s an argument for both. I think the club would have done it and financially know where they are at due to the clauses,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“They’re in a much better situation compared to the last time they were relegated. They will be on a sound footing. They won’t be paying anything like they were in the Premier League.

“The relegation clauses, sell-on clauses and cuts in the contracts have to be there.
“This is nothing new – they have to be there. This is not just Leeds United, this is widespread. From outside the top six, the majority of the Premier League will have relegation clauses.”
Daniel Farke is now closing in on the managerial position at Elland Road with the board now eager to kickstart their summer transfer business.
