Leeds United relegation clause update emerges after 6-1 Premier League loss v Liverpool
All Leeds United players have a relegation clause in their contract that would see them take a “significant” pay-cut, according to the Daily Mail (18 April).
The Whites are on the brink of relegation after aggregate 11-2 defeats in the last two consecutive home games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool most recently.
Javi Gracia’s side are now two points above the relegation zone with seven games to go and have some tough fixtures, but should the worst thing happen and the club go down they are prepared for it financially.

“While Radrizzani would lose out Leeds as a club are well-placed to cope financially in the event of relegation,” they wrote.
“Gracia’s players all have relegation clauses in their contracts stipulating significant pay-cuts in the Championship.”
Sensible
Obviously in an ideal world we won’t ever see these clauses come into effect and Leeds will be able to keep everyone happy.
But at the end of the day it’s the poor performances of these players that would see them suffer financially if we get relegated, so it’s right that they’d take a hit for it too.

The likelihood is that several members of the squad would leave in the summer, with lots of money being generated from the sales of the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Robin Koch and Tyler Adams.
The board have taken a lot of stick but they can’t be accused of not having the club’s best interests at heart, because they have made a lot of sensible and clever decisions in their time here to ensure that we never fall into a situation like we did 20 years ago.
It’s going to be a tough end to the season, but fans can at least know that should the worst happen financial oblivion won’t follow soon after.
