Leeds United ready Maximilian Wober move with £35m+ Red Bull Salzburg raid on the cards
Leeds United are ready to take their transfer raid of RB Salzburg to over £35million as the club consider a move for Max Wober, according to the Daily Mirror.
It’s believed the Austrian defender is just one of a number of names Jesse Marsch is considering to tighten up his backline during the January window (The Mirror, 29 December, page 49).
The 24-year-old RB Salzburg captain is understood to be available for £14million and it’s also been reported by Austrian journalist Peter Linden (27 December) that Wober is willing to leave Salzburg after a “short period of reflection”.
It’s not a surprise to see Marsch looking back to his old club before the January window has opened. Brenden Aaronson has been a success since his move to Elland Road, and the same can certainly be said of Tyler Adams, who has previously worked with the Leeds boss.
Marsch clearly likes to work with players he can trust and Wober looks to fall into the category as well. At 24, he’s relatively young for a central defender, and would certainly be an upgrade on some of the Whites’ current defensive options.
However, whether a central defender is a priority is certainly up for debate at the moment. A left-back has to be the top priority for the board, with Junior Firpo struggling for form and fitness and Pascal Struijk being played out of position at the moment.
A central defender would be welcomed, but if it’s going to impact Leeds’ left-back hunt, then a rethink should certainly happen.
