Leeds United ready bid to sign Osasuna striker Chimy Avila in January

Leeds United are keen to sign Osasuna striker Chimy Avila in the January transfer window, according to a report from Fichajes.

La Liga giants Sevilla are also in the hunt to sign the 28-year-old striker, but the Whites are very serious about landing him in the upcoming transfer window.

Avila has a release clause of around £26m, but Leeds are preparing an offer in the region of £20m, which could seal the deal for the player.

There are other sides who have shown interest but the report clearly states that if the Whites can come up with this offer, they are clear winners in the race for his signature.

Striker needed

Avila is a versatile forward who can play in multiple positions upfront. He can play as a striker, or in all three attacking midfield positions upfront.

This season he has scored six goals in La Liga and has an assist to his name as well. He has a contract at the Spanish club until 2026, but he could be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in.

The Whites badly need a striker in January. Patrick Bamford has still struggled with fitness, while Joe Gelhardt hasn’t been at his best despite showing lots of promise last season.

The likes of Cry Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have done extremely well but Leeds need another player upfront who can make an instant impact.

Avila looks like a decent option but there are probably better options around at that price. Moreover, he has struggled previously with injuries, although he is enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment.

In other Leeds United news, Gary Neville will be furious with this major development at Leeds.
