Leeds United: Ray Parlour shares ‘intriguing’ promotion verdict in new Leicester City admission

Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town’s title race in the Championship will go “down to the wire” in the final weeks of the season, according to Ray Parlour.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit top of England’s second tier ahead of the Foxes on goal difference, but Enzo Maresca’s side have a game in hand over the Whites ahead of the Good Friday (29 March) EFL fixtures.

While Leeds currently appear to be in the driving seat, Parlour has admitted that he has been surprised by the Whites’ climb up the table as he expected Leicester to “run away with it” this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (29 March, 6:08) he said: “It’s amazing to see the top of the table now, I mean who would have thought Leeds would be top at this stage because Leicester looked like they were going to run away with it.

“It just shows you that, they kept going Leeds now they’re top of the league and obviously Leicester have got the game in hand.

“Southampton will be hoping that they can get back to winning ways after their unbeaten run, they lost a few games in a row it looked like they were out of it, but they’ve still got a chance with the games in hand. It’s so exciting.

“It’s going to go down to the wire, that top of the table, it’s going to be intriguing to see what happens.”

Will Leeds United win the Championship ahead of Leicester City and Ipswich Town?

Now that the international break is over, Leeds United will be entirely focused on the run-in in the Championship as they have a chance to not only return to the Premier League but win another league title.

While Leicester have been poor in recent weeks, they have shown under Maresca that they are more than capable of producing an excellent run of form at the drop of the hat, so the Whites cannot write the Foxes off yet.

Most pundits have suggested that it is a three-way race between Farke’s side, Leicester and Ipswich for the automatic promotion places, but Southampton can’t be ruled out as they looked unbeatable for much of 2024.

Hopefully, Leeds will find a way to keep their winning run going and book their place in the Premier League this season. They have shown they can beat anybody this season, now they just have to do it for another month.
