Leeds United quest to sign Torino Ola Aina halted due to third-party injury

Leeds United could miss out on the services of Torino right-back Ola Aina, according to Italian media outlet Toro.it.

The Italian club recently signed Mohamed Fares on loan, who plays in the same position as Aina.

However, Fares suffered an ACL injury which rules him out for the rest of the season, which means that the Whites may not be able to secure the services of the Nigeria international this month.

Aina, 25, was understood to be keen on moving to the Premier League after he was being courted by Leeds.

Shame

The Nigerian would’ve been a terrific addition for Leeds after they let Cody Drameh leave on loan.

Luke Ayling has suffered few injuries over recent seasons and having a younger backup for him would’ve been a good idea.

The Englishman also covers at centre-back which leaves Jamie Shackleton being the only like-for-like replacement.

Even Shackleton, who prefers playing in midfield, would not fancy becoming a full-time right-back.

Aina’s signing would’ve certainly solved all these problems and his experience in the Premier League would’ve come in handy.

However, as things stand, this move now seems to be off, unless Torino can get that loan cancelled by Lazio and find a replacement for Aina.

It is complicated but it could happen and it remains to be seen how this transpires.

If it doesn’t work out, the Whites need to prioritise a midfielder more than a right-back.
