Leeds United pursuit of Nicolas Pepe confuses journalist after talks with sources

Leeds United have already signed a winger in Luis Sinisterra but that has not stopped rumours that similar signings could be made.

Diario Sevilla reported on 14 July that the Whites were interested in signing Arsenal flop Nicolas Pepe in a deal which would cost upwards of £21.5million after the Gunners signed him for £72million in 2019.

The 27-year-old has changed his agent to try and force a move away from the Emirates now he has been replaced in Mikel Arteta’s side by Bukayo Saka.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs is somewhat befuddled at these rumours though having spoken to his own sources about them.

“The other sort of left-field thing that has come around, but I am not so sure when talking to sources, is that Leeds are now coming into the conversation for Nicolas Pepe as well,” he said on the Football Terrace YouTube channel.

“Those reported have come out of Spain for Leeds. Let’s not forget that Sinisterra has arrived, but Leeds do need more attacking reinforcements. I’m not sure this is the right fit for Leeds United, but one to watch.”

We needed a winger because we knew that Raphinha was leaving so we have already gone and bought one, we don’t need another stinking out the place.

Nothing we have seen from the Ivorian since his mega-money move to London three years ago has suggested that he can hack it in the Premier League so he would only become useful to us if we got relegated.

With the additions we have made so far this summer, that shouldn’t happen or even be a possibility when we reach the back end of the season so Pepe is even less required.

Instead of searching for another winger, we should be making more moves to try and bring in a new left-back because Junior Firpo is just not good enough to be our only proper option.

Leif Davis is still very much unproven in the Premier League but we would be willing for him to get a chance to show what he’s all about but it would be a big risk for Jesse Marsch not to bring in another body in that area just to be safe.

In other Leeds United news, we still hold a good advantage in this particular transfer race even though a third bid is coming in from these European champions.
