Leeds United pursuit of left-back going strong despite Alioski uncertainty
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Symth has not heard anything that suggests Gjanni Alioski’s uncertain future is affecting Leeds United in their quest to sign a new left-back.
In his piece on the website for the Yorkshire-based paper, Symth stated that Alioski is on the shop window for his final game as North Macedonia take on the Netherlands later today.
He wrote that the club still want him to stay, but he’s unlikely to be the first choice next season as Leeds are ‘quietly confident’ of landing their primary left-back target this summer.
Relief
The Alioski situation has been drawing on for a few months now, and we’re glad that Symth doesn’t think it’s holding us back from pursuing our first-choice option.
The North Macedonian has been decent in that position, but it’s not been a role he’s liked playing in, and even if he stays, we have to find an upgrade at left-back.

Going for a younger player could be an option, but if we are to kick on and go the extra mile next season, we cannot afford to compromise on our transfer targets.
Romain Perraud has been linked, but if recent reports are to be believed, he’s closing in on a move to Southampton [Alex Crook], while Javi Galan and Maxwel Cornet are the other names that have been strongly linked with us in the past few weeks.
The YEP report doesn’t mention who our primary transfer target is, but the fact that we’re confident of getting that over the line is something that should see fans heave a sigh of relief.
While we’re still not linked with him, Robin Gosens is a name that could pop up on Leeds’ radar in the coming weeks.
We’re aware that Marcelo Bielsa does not judge players based on one tournament, but he’s had a good year for Atalanta and could be on the move somewhere this summer.
