Leeds United prove Chris Wilder right after he caused yet another stir

Chris Wilder caused a “stir” after claiming Leeds United were miles ahead of Sheffield United in the promotion race, David Coverdale says.

After the Blades drew 2-2 to West Brom in the Championship on Sunday [8 December], the English head coach admitted that the Whites were in a better position than them to make it into the Premier League.

Daniel Farke dismissed those claims before the Middlesbrough clash, but was said to prove them right after beating the North Yorkshire club 3-1 on Tuesday [10 December].

In the print edition of the Daily Mail [11 December, pg 61], Coverdale wrote: “Farke can play it down all he likes, but his Leeds side showed against last night that they are the team to topple in the Championship.

“Sheffield United boss Wilder caused a stir at the weekend when he claimed Farke’s men were ‘miles ahead’ of his own promotion hopefuls.

“But while Farke rubbished his rival manager’s remark, his team went on to prove Wilder right last night by beating Middlesbrough and return to the top of the table at the expense of the Blades.”

Chris Wilder right about Leeds United promotion hopes

The Elland Road faithful expect the Peacocks to attain automatic promotion this season after missing out in the previous campaign.

Southampton stopped the Whites in their tracks in the play-off final last term, leaving the fans dejected, considering they were seen as the favourites.

Farke might not like the pressure on his team, but the German manager needs to ensure that the West Yorkshire club make their way back to the English top flight.

Despite the injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev early on in the season, the Whites still find themselves around the top of the table.

Joe Rothwell and Ao Takanaka have filled the void in the engine room, with the Japanese impressing many in his debut campaign.

Farke can have no complaints if the Peacocks fail to attain promotion once again, although things look encouraging with almost half the season complete.
