Leeds United promote Henry McStay to senior behind-the-scenes role after Elland Road exit
Leeds United will promote Henry McStay to the role of Head of Medicine and Performance following Rob Price’s Elland Road exit, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC journalist reported via X on Friday (5 July) that the first team Lead Physiotherapist will step up and fill the void left by Price after he left the Whites to take on a role with Championship rivals Derby County.
Although he never managed to break into the first team at Elland Road, McStay was on Leeds’ books as a young player before going to have a reasonable footballing career which saw him play for Royal Antwerp and Morecombe.
Are Leeds United close to any new arrivals at Elland Road in summer transfer window?
While these sorts of behind-the-scenes reshuffles are not what Leeds United supporters want to be hearing about during the summer transfer window, this is a very important position that the Whites have to fill with the right person.
The Championship campaign is an incredibly long and challenging one for players and staff alike and Daniel Farke simply cannot afford to be missing any of his biggest and brightest stars for extended periods of the season.
While some injuries will always occur over the course of a 46-game season, a good medical and performance department will ensure that these will be limited and fans have to hope McStay is up to the job.
Leeds may have been linked to several players already this summer, but with more departures mooted ahead of the season, keeping the majority of the squad fit and available will be crucial to this year’s promotion push.
But for the supporters’ sake, let’s hope there is some more exciting news out of Elland Road in the coming days and weeks to get fans excited for the new season.
The lack of incoming business following Archie Gray’s exit has put a dampener on the transfer window so far.
