Leeds United progress in negotiations to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus - Di Marzio

Leeds United have reportedly progressed in their negotiations with Juventus in order to sign their midfielder Weston McKennie.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio [24 January], the American fancies a move to Elland Road and has given the green signal to the transfer.

Leeds are looking to sign a new central midfielder before the transfer deadline and Jesse Marsch has identified his 24-year-old compatriot.

Good move

Leeds have been keen on Azzedine Ounahi, especially after his exploits in the World Cup as he played a key role in guiding Morocco to the semi-finals.

However, it was obvious that his valuation is going to be inflated in January and Leeds are not willing to pay a premium to secure his services.

Signing McKennie makes a lot of sense as the Whites do not have his profile of player in the side and he’ll add something different to the eleven.

He will also not take too much time to adapt as he’s got two of his United States teammates in Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson.

Marsch too, has fancied bringing in Americans and he probably will have met McKennie in the past so the personal equation could also count for something.

Hopefully, the Whites do not waste too much time in getting this deal over the line and it remains to be seen what the financials are for this one.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist has shared if Leeds are set for a financial gain if Raphinha quits Barcelona in the January window amid links with Arsenal.
