Mauricio Pochettino will not take Leeds United job – talkSPORT reporter

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has completely ruled out Mauricio Pochettino taking the vacant Leeds United managerial position.

Jesse Marsch was sacked by Leeds United on 6 February and the search for his replacement is well underway with plenty of names being linked to Elland Road.

Nevertheless, Crook confessed that fans who were hoping for a Pochettino appointment will be left disappointed, admitting there is “absolutely no chance” he takes the job.

“Well I heard a Leeds fan with you a couple moments ago talking about Pochettino, I don’t want to shatter their thunder but absolutely no chance Mauricio Pochettino takes this job,” said Crooks live on TalkSPORT. (7 February)

“Carlos Corberan is the name that was mentioned to me when I reported on Jesse Marsch’s departure, he’s got history with the club, part of Bielsa’s backroom team.

“The other name that came out last night was Andoni Iraola, he’s at Real Vallecano in Spain, that’s a possibility as well but at the moment I’d make Corberan the frontrunner if he wants the job.”

The right call.

Andrea Radrizanni and co have made the right call by sacking Marsch and doing it before the two games against Manchester United was a smart move.

The Nottingham Forest fixture put the writing on the wall for the American and it was clear that his tactics and coaching wasn’t working.

It’s a shame, because Marsch came across as a nice guy but sometimes being nice in the Premier League gets you absolutely nowhere and this was the case with him.

Fans’ heads turned long ago and many of the support had been crying out for change as early as October, this part of the Elland Road faithful has now got their wish.

Onwards and upwards must be the motto now for Leeds United and it’s still unclear as to what route the hierarchy will take with their next managerial appointment.

Premier League safety is a must, especially with the competitive nature at the bottom of the league right now, points are needed quickly.

In other Leeds United news, a club is already looking for replacements as the Whites aim for their priority candidate.
