Leeds United players rally behind unsettled Georginio Rutter after big-money Elland Road move
Georginio Rutter’s Leeds United teammates are rallying behind the Frenchman after a difficult start to life in England, according to Mike McGrath.
The 21-year-old was signed by Jesse Marsch during the January window in a deal which could reach £35million.
McGrath has revealed (The Telegraph, 24 May), that Rutter’s struggles with English have made life tough since moving to the Premier League.
“Despite teammates rallying around him daily, he has struggled with the expectations of such a fee,” wrote McGrath
“There have been glimpses of what Rutter is capable of when he has played on the training pitches with his teammates, but they have not translated into Premier League games.
“He has struggled with English, despite teammates trying a little French to him around the training ground. He has also had goalkeeper Illan Meslier close by, an old friend from FC Lorient, but four months on the 21-year-old has struggled to settle.

“Even with the help of teammates, he is a young player who has moved away from his parents for the first time in his career.”
Part to play
Rutter, without a doubt, still has a part to play this season. Patrick Bamford’s injury has presented an opportunity to the Frenchman. Furthermore, Rodrigo is also a doubt for the clash against Spurs. There’s a golden chance for the forward to write his name into Leeds’ history books.
If he got on the scoresheet and helped secure the Whites’ survival, his sizeable transfer fee would be fully vindicated. He’s shown glimpses at Elland Road, but a survival battle is hardly the ideal scenario for him to showcase his talent.
Sam Allardyce’s side have to get the job done on Sunday. Tottenham head to Elland Road in dreadful form and are certainly there for the taking. Leeds have to pick up three points and hope Leicester and Everton both drop points in their home fixtures.
An early goal could be absolutely vital for the Whites. It promises to be an extremely nervy final day at the bottom end of the Premier League table.
