Leeds United player ratings v Plymouth: Crysencio Summerville flops

Leeds United continued their exceptional run of form as they picked up a 2-0 victory against Plymouth in the EFL Championship on 17 February.

Willy Gnonto opened the scoring for the Whites and Georginio Rutter added a second in the second half to secure the three points.

Despite having moments where they struggled to control proceedings, Daniel Farke’s side professionally saw things through until the full-time whistle.

Here are our player ratings from the game:

Illan Meslier – 7

Per Sofascore, he made just one save, but there were three important punches he made and also claimed the ball in a few dangerous situations as well. He also marshalled his defence really well and did not look nervous with the ball at his feet.

Archie Gray – 7

Played at right-back again and was dominant in that position for Leeds. Made three interceptions, four tackles and amassed a pass accuracy north of 80 per cent. There was every reason to be proud of this display and Farke will be thrilled with the strides he’s taken this season.

Joe Rodon – 6

Had a dicey moment in the second half where his misplaced pass could’ve led to the Whites conceding a goal. He also picked up a yellow card in the game. However, apart from that, he was relatively unblemished defensively and was also good with the ball at his feet.

Ampadu with a defensive masterclass for Leeds United

Ethan Ampadu – 8

Won a few important tackles and shielded Meslier’s goal impressively well. Starting the season as a midfielder, he’s shown that he’s just as efficient playing as a centre-back as well. He was also heard dishing out instructions to the players so it’s evident that he’s emerging as a leader and one Farke’s top players.

Junior Firpo – 7

Was quality going forward and always offered a threat going forward. His pass accuracy was north of 85 per cent and he combined well with the likes of Kamara and Summerville on occasion. Aerially too, he won both his duels so it was a dominating display all round.

Ilia Gruev – 6

Had a pass accuracy of 90 per cent but there were moments off the ball where one would’ve expected more from him. It did not affect the result but losing control in midfield at a crucial stage in the game with the score 1-0 is not ideal for a central midfielder.

Glen Kamara – 7

Much like Gruev, his accuracy was at 90 per cent but he covered a lot of ground and also did a lot of important work off the ball. He also won his only aerial duel and did his level best to win all the key battles in the middle of the park for the visitors.

Wilfried Gnonto – 8

Did exceptionally well to control a high pass that fell into his stride early on in the game. He took it really well and slotted it into the back of the net to continue his exceptional scoring run. Throughout the game, he seemed on it, being a menace down the right flank. He won most of his ground duels as well and was pretty accurate with his passes.

Georginio Rutter – 7

Had a very good chance in the 40th minute and despite there being a few players, he managed to fire a good shot at goal but was unlucky as it came back off the post. However, in the second half, he made a few questionable passes, did not look as sharp as he did in the first period and seemed to be off his game. He came alive in the final quarter of the game and found the back of the net to secure the three points.

Summerville not sharp enough for Leeds United

Crysencio Summerville – 4

Had his moments in the game and also in the 69th minute, had a chance to curl the ball into the far post to add to his 16 goals this season. He was given his due respect by the Plymouth players but given his recent displays, this was a tad underwhelming. Things just didn’t seem to be clicking for him and he was rightly taken off in the second period.

Joel Piroe – 5

Was on the periphery of things initially, but managed to get involved and set up a very good chance for Rutter in the dying stages of the first half. However, he was rather anonymous in the second half and really struggled to make things happen in the final third. Farke then changed his position and made him play as a 10 with Rutter leading the line and that worked with him providing an assist for Rutter.
