Leeds United player Cody Drameh faces injury scare on Tuesday night

Leeds United defender Cody Drameh suffered a knock while playing for the Under-21s in the 5-3 win against Tranmere Rovers.

Head coach Michael Skubala confirmed that he will be assessed later on Wednesday, 5 October, to see the extent of his injury.

Apart from Drameh, another concern is Leo Hjelde, who missed the clash on Tuesday with a stomach bug.

Via Twitter, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Joe Donnohue wrote, “In addition, Michael Skubala says Drameh took a knock towards the end and will be assessed tomorrow. Hjelde missed out with a stomach bug.”

Cusp on first team?

Despite a full-back crisis last season, Drameh was allowed to leave on loan to join Cardiff City in the January transfer window.

He did a fairly good job there and the club hierarchy decided that it’s best he stays put at Elland Road at least for the first half of this season.

That could’ve been because of Luke Ayling’s injury which kept him out of the start of the campaign, but now that he’s back, things may change.

That said, if Drameh continues to perform well for the Under-21s and Under-23s, he could knock on Jesse Marsch’s door and ask about his pathway to the first team.

Ayling has reached the twilight of his career and does not have too many seasons left in him, so if the 20-year-old is seen as a future first-team player, they have to have the conversation with both sooner rather than later.

Drameh has proved that he can handle the responsibilities of the senior side and it’s now for Marsch to take the leap of faith on him.
