Leeds United: Phil McNulty predicts Championship winner for BBC Sport, ‘easy’ claim made

Leeds United will win the Championship this season, according to BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty.

The Whites currently sit top of the table, having overtaken Leicester City on goal difference after beating Millwall 2-0 on Sunday (17 March).

The top two clubs are level on 82 points, although the Foxes do have a game in hand over the Elland Road club.

When asked who will win the Championship and who will get promoted in a BBC Sport Q&A, McNulty replied: “Nice easy one there! I think Leeds United will win the Championship while Leicester City and Southampton will go up with them.

“Can I add as a bit of fence-sitter that I only say the Leeds bit with confidence because I think any of those behind them could go up. As usual, the Championship is a brilliant division.”

Will Leeds United win the Championship this season?

It has been another thrilling Championship campaign, with many twists and turns taking place and many more to come.

Leeds have completed a remarkable rise to the top thanks to their form under Daniel Farke, although they have been helped by a few slip-ups from Leicester recently.

The Whites are neck and neck with the Foxes, with the former boasting a +42 goal difference compared to the latter’s +41.

But Enzo Maresca’s side can go back to the summit if they draw or win their game in hand, with Ipswich Town only a point behind the pair in third place.

Southampton meanwhile occupy fourth spot, with West Brom and Norwich City in fifth and sixth places respectively.

Unfortunately, an international break now disrupts this very exciting title race, with all the clubs involved eager to get going again as soon as possible, with no room for error now at this crucial stage of the campaign.

In other Leeds United news, Elland Road ace Wilfried Gnonto will be fuming after an official announcement was made recently.
