Leeds United: Phil Hay shares season ticket news as refunds possible on renewals

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has shared that Leeds United season ticket renewal prices will receive a 10% increase for general admissions, something which would be refunded if the club were relegated.

Hay shared the massive waiting list numbers for season tickets, one which currently stands just short of 22,000 in another staggering show of the club’s support.

Leeds United released a statement on 6 March claiming the decision wasn’t taken lightly especially when it coincides with poor performances on the pitch.

“Leeds United announce season ticket renewal prices for 2023-24 – 10% rise for general admission STs,” said Hay on Twitter. (6 March, 12:32 PM)

“Rise will be refunded if the club go down. Waiting list just short of 22,000. Renewals open later today.”

Leeds United fans

Football not for the fans.

So is that around a 22.5% increase over the last two years for fans paying to watch Leeds United play some dire football at Elland Road?

The country is wrapped in a cost-of-living crisis and the board has yet again shown little shame in another announcement that will hit the Elland Road faithful hard.

What are fans paying an increase for? The pies at Elland Road taste like they have been cooked when the club were still in the Championship.

Unfortunately, with a 22,000 queue waiting eagerly behind current season ticket holders, there is pretty much a never-ending amount of customers for this poorly run shop.

At a time when Leeds United fans need some good news, stuff like this only hurts and disheartens the fanbase even more and it’s a very out-of-touch moment yet again.

Frustrating, annoying and downright laughable, it’s never easy being a fan of the Whites and decisions like these will be making fans in West Yorkshire question why they even bother in their undying support.

In other Leeds United news, two of the club’s hierarchy have now exposed themselves as a liability in charge in the past week.
