Phil Hay lauds Leeds United wonder Wilfried Gnonto in clash v Real Sociedad

Phil Hay couldn’t contain his excitement over what Leeds United wonder Wilfried Gnonto did in the friendly against Real Sociedad on 16 December.

The Athletic journalist revealed before kick-off that Gnonto had come into the starting lineup to replace Jack Harrison, who was suffering from a bit of tightness.

Nevertheless, it seems things worked out well for Leeds United if Hay’s remarks about Gnonto are anything to go by, with the journalist lauding the Italian’s “magic” against Sociedad.

“Bit of Gnonto magic, spinning away from three players who thought they had him cornered,” exclaimed Hay on Twitter.

Doesn’t Gnonto pull these tricks every time he steps foot onto the Elland Road surface? The wonder deserves more starts under Marsch.

Class act.

Just like Hay spilt out his glee for Gnonto on Twitter, it’s really hard not to get excited over the Italian wonders’ terrific play.

Victor Orta and co got this transfer absolutely spot on and the youngster needs to be given more starts under Marsch, he’s more than settled in England now.

With Harrison’s apparent injury and Crysencio Summerville out of action for the foreseeable, it only makes sense to give Gnonto a run of games in the starting XI.

No one else in the current Leeds United squad can tear up defences like the young Italian can and his youthful, pacey and direct play is a dangerous weapon for Marsch to have at his disposal.

The trio of Gnonto, Rodrigo and Gelhardt looked nice against Sociedad and maybe this could be deployed more by the American in upcoming games.

Even if Harrison’s injuries aren’t as bad as first suspected, Gnonto has arguably more to give than the Englishman right now and on current form, deserves a place over him.

In other Leeds United news, talks are underway over this player quitting Elland Road for a high-paid contract.
