Leeds United: Paul Merson tips Tim Sherwood to take Whites managers job
Paul Merson has tipped his fellow Sky Sports panellist Tim Sherwood to take on the Leeds United manager job on Saturday 18 February.
Merson reckons any head coach would never take the Southampton job over the one on offer at Leeds United, however, he admitted this could change in two games’ time.
The Sky Sports pundit went on to say that he doesn’t think Leeds United will get relegated as they head into a crunch match with Everton this afternoon.

“I think as we talk today before three o’clock, I think it’s one of the best jobs about,” said Merson live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday. (12:29, 18 February)
“You never take the Southampton job over the Leeds job, any time, but even more so, this could horribly change in two games’ time. The two fixtures you’ve just said, if they get no points in those two games, then I don’t think anybody is going for that job, I think it’s a hard, hard job. I think the man sitting there (Tim Sherwood) – he’s fresh, he has a go and he’s been there before.”
Sherwood responded to that tip with some fresh enthusiasm to get back into it: “Absolutely. [he would take it]
“Certainly at Leeds United, I don’t think they get relegated. It’s an unbelievable job.”

Oh, come on.
Has Leeds United’s managerial hunt sunk that low that the likes of Sherwood are now being suggested to take over the vacant role?
Merson is known for saying some outlandish statements at times but this one is ranking close to the top for bizarre things he has said.
The Whites being linked with Harry Redknapp this week was strange enough, let’s not be adding any fuel to the fire of a Sherwood appointment.
First things first, let’s see how Michael Skubala fares in today’s game against Everton at Goodison, a win for him there would be a real coup.
A win that could very well be enough to convince the Leeds hierarchy of keeping him at the helm for the remainder of the season.
It’s going to be an interesting few weeks to be a Leeds United fan, expect twists and turns aplenty as the club looks to navigate away from the dreaded drop.
