Leeds United: Paul Heckingbottom shares ‘Unreal’ Elland Road view amid Premier League verdict

Paul Heckingbottom has gushed over the atmosphere at Elland Road, citing it as a “fantastic” place to play as Leeds United push for Premier League promotion.

Daniel Farke and his squad have made Elland Road a fortress this season, having lost zero Championship games at home during the current campaign, and the fans have matched the feeling every step of the way.

The impact of an incredible atmosphere was truly put to the test as the Whites came up against Leicester City on Friday 23 March, being 1-0 behind until the 80th minute before a dramatic 3-1 comeback.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (27 February, 9:55am), Heckingbottom said: “In terms of Elland Road and the fanbase, it’s unreal. Players wanted to play for the club, away players always looked forward to the fixture.

“Having that atmosphere in the Premier League, whether you’ve got the Sky cameras there or whatever, it’s a fantastic place to play.”

Will Leeds United be playing their football in the Premier League next season?

Unbeaten in the Championship in nine matches, unbeaten at Elland Road this season, and completing the league double over league leaders Leicester City, Leeds have truly entered themselves into the conversation to finish top of the table.

After securing a 3-1 victory over the Foxes on Friday 23 February, Farke’s men have closed the gap between first and second to just six points, and automatic promotion looks like theirs to lose.

With 12 games remaining, the Whites will want to secure their spot in the Premier League for next season, without the need to battle through the playoffs. Elland Road could certainly be a top-division ground again.

Ipswich Town and Southampton are still in contention to pip Leeds to the automatic promotion spots, with the Tractor Boys level on points and the Saints five points behind.

Leeds have kept one of the tightest defences in the division, with Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper leading their side from the back against a whole host of dangerous forwards in the division.

In other Leeds United news, Gretar Steinsson has been hailed as one transfer flies under the radar at Elland Road.
