Leeds United: Patrick Bamford could be dropped v Sunderland as changes ready
Daniel Farke may opt to make changes to his starting XI following the Leeds United defeat to Coventry City, according to Jon Newsome.
Leeds fell to their first Championship defeat of 2024 as Ellis Simms and Haji Wright condemned them to a 2-1 loss away from home on April 6.
This may have put a dent in the Whites’ automatic promotion hopes if it wasn’t for Ipswich Town’s derby day loss to Norwich City.
It will be a quick turnaround for Farke and his side as they face Sunderland (9 April) just three days after their trip to face Coventry.
With that being said, Newsome told BBC Radio Leeds that he believes changes will be made for the game at Elland Road.
He said: “I think there may well be a number of changes on Tuesday night. I think that could possibly be one of them [Roberts to right-back, Gray into midfield]. I would not be surprised if Patrick [Bamford] was on the bench and he gives Joseph a start. He’s the manager, that’s what he gets paid for.”
Should Mateo Joseph start for Leeds United v Sunderland?
Bamford was the chosen striker for Leeds vs Coventry, this is as he has scored seven goals and assisted one in 30 matches [FotMob].
The striker position is one that Farke has chopped and changed throughout the season with Bamford starting 13 games and 28 starts for Joel Piroe.
Alongside them has been Joseph in recent weeks who has made 16 appearances but is yet to make a Championship start.

He did grab his first goal of the league campaign against Watford just minutes after being brought off the bench.
Joseph’s best moment of the season came against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge where he grabbed an FA Cup brace in a defeat.
With games coming thick and fast as the season nears its eventual end, affording the Spaniard a start could be worth it.
Bamford may be in need of a rest and Joseph could allow for that. A change could see Piroe or even Georginio Rutter start up front but a change is still likely.
