Leeds United: Pascal Struijk injury news as Phil Hay shares surgery update

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk will now “likely” need to undergo surgery to resolve his injury problems, according to Phil Hay.

Writing on The Athletic website on Monday (25 March), the journalist highlighted how Daniel Farke had revealed last week that a programme of injection therapy had failed to get the 24-year-old fit.

Hay added that the way Farke said it made surgery likely, something that would rule him out until the summer at Elland Road.

It’s certainly a blow for Leeds that the injection therapy hasn’t worked to try and get Struijk back up to fitness for the final few weeks of the campaign.

There is a risk, though, that if they were to rush him back into the fold following the injections the injury could potentially get worse without the intervention of surgery.

It’s unclear whether or not he will need to go under the knife, but given that he’s been out of action since the back end of last year, it appears as though there is a strong likelihood that could be the case.

Given that Ethan Ampadu has slotted into the back four seamlessly alongside his compatriot Joe Rodon, it would be difficult for Farke to bring the Belgian back into the starting lineup anyway.

As long as one of that duo doesn’t pick up an injury in the coming weeks, the Whites should be well-set at centre-back following their impressive defender record in this calendar year.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to sell a midfielder for £10.3million after what he told the media.
