Leeds United are reported “admirers” of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz and would look to sign him on a free next summer.

According to the Daily Mail, if he doesn’t agree a deal to move to a European club in the new year, they will make an attempt to sign him at the end of the season.

The Chile international is in the final year of his contract at Ewood Park and he has not been offered a new deal at the club as things stand.

Over the international break, it’s understood that La Liga trio Villarreal, Valencia and Celta Vigo are planning to send scouts to watch the 23-year-old.

English disadvantage

The fact that Leeds and Blackburn are both English clubs disadvantages the Whites as they cannot get him to sign a pre-contract agreement.

Even if he was plying his trade in Scotland, it would’ve been possible but they will now have to wait six months and hope nobody signs him.

If they really want their man, they can look to make a bid for him in January and the chances that Blackburn will sell him are higher.

Should he run his contract down, they will not get anything for a striker who scored 22 league goals last season and already has four this time around.

Diaz is a goal machine who’s going to be in demand in every window until he gets his move and we’re hoping that Leeds can convince him to jump ship.

The chances of that happening seem to be slim as clubs are already sending scouts to watch him and then they could look to start discussing personal terms as well.

In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road-linked midfielder is now certain to leave his club in the coming weeks as a host of Premier League clubs are vying for his services.
