Leeds United offer Weston McKennie contract until 2027 in fresh transfer twist

Leeds United have offered Weston McKennie a contract until 2027, however, the deal will still be formulated in a loan-to-buy format, according to DAZN journalist Orazio Accomando.

The response to the offer from Leeds United is expected in the next few hours from Juventus as the Whites look to get McKennie signed and sealed.

Accomando reports that Leeds United have offered a £24m plus £3.5m in bonuses to the Old Lady of Turin in the club’s freshest attempt to prize the maestro to West Yorkshire.

“The Leeds raises the offer to Juventus by McKennie. The formula is still that of the loan with an option, but the bonuses increase,” said Accomando on Twitter. (27 January, 7:58 PM)

“€28M+4 bonuses. The player was offered a contract until 2027. The response from Juventus is expected in the next few hours.”

Twists and turns.

There was always going to be twists and turns aplenty in this transfer saga and it seems Leeds United want McKennie to be part of their squad for the foreseeable.

Offering the American a contract until 2027 will see the maestro play his prime years at Elland Road, something the Whites could be able to extend should he perform well.

This is a rather odd way to do a transfer and it’s not yet clear as to why Leeds United have gone down this route but it seems it’s the best way to get the deal over the line.

Juventus will still be getting the money they want for the midfielder, so either way, this seems like a decent offer for all parties involved.

Hopefully, fans will get to see McKennie announced by Leeds in the coming days, he’s certainly the star signing many fans have been craving in recent windows.
