Nuno Espirito Santo pushed for Leeds United job as manager news drops

Former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo continues to be pushed for the vacant Leeds United manager’s job, according to the Daily Mail. (pg 72, 14 February)

The report claims that Steven Gerrard’s availability alongside former Leeds United favourite Gary McAllister is also being noted.

Former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder was ruled out of the running for the job yesterday (13 February) after mounting criticism roared online over the Dutchman’s potential Elland Road arrival.

“Former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is one who continues to be pushed,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (pg 72, 14 February)

“Steven Gerrard’s availability alongside former Leeds favourite Gary McAllister, has also been noted, though the former Aston Villa boss.”

So, now it’s looking increasingly likely that the club may make a move for a manager on a short-term basis rather than following their long-term vision.

Interesting hours.

Interesting hours lie ahead for Leeds United and who the club move forward with in their managerial search is very much up in the air.

It’s fair to say that fans are happy that the club have avoided going down the route of former Ajax boss Schreuder, a decision that was risky and bizarre at the same time.

Espirito Santo isn’t a name that gets fans overly excited, nevertheless, his Premier League experience and general English football nouse would be far more helpful than that of Schreuder.

And unfortunately, the Whites aren’t in a position to be picky right now, they have left things far too late and a coach with Espirito Santo’s pedigree may be the best bet.

Hindsight is a lovely thing but in this case, it begs the question as to why the Leeds United hierarchy didn’t get rid of Jesse March during the extended FIFA World Cup break.

This would have been the ideal time to bring in a new coach, the right one and whoever that may have been would have got sufficient time to get settled in West Yorkshire.

Now, the club face a rushed and anxious wait over who and what will be coming into the fold at Elland Road and more importantly, whether they can keep Leeds United in the Premier League.
