Leeds United now tell Charles De Ketelaere they can meet his personal wage demands – Phil Hay

Leeds United have now told Club Brugges star Charles De Ketelaere they can meet his wage demands, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist has shared this week that the Whites can 100% finance a deal that would please both club and player, but they have now made that known.

The Whites are still behind AC Milan, and have been told that if they meet the demands, they will sign De Ketelaere, although the plug has not been pulled yet.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Hay shared the latest on the matter as the Whites really try and put their foot down for a deal.

“Charles De Ketelaere is the one and has been for some time, the target Leeds would bring in tomorrow if they could,” he wrote.

“They know Club Bruges’ valuation of the 21-year-old, around £30million ($35.6m), and are willing to meet it. They know how much De Ketelaere would expect as a salary package and have indicated to him that they can match his demands.”

Smart.

Leeds know what they are doing here.

With AC Milan somewhat struggling to cough up the cash needed for this deal, Andrea Radrizzani is simply dangling the financial carrot in front of De Ketelaere.

The Whites have those Premier League funds coming in each year, and that makes it the richest league in the world, and the young striker will know that.

Leeds making contact and not pulling the plug means they are still in play for this one, and if AC Milan don’t get on with it soon enough, the player, as well as Club Brugges could get frustrated.

Victor Orta is working on other deals, there will be no doubt about that, but this is still the main deal that the club really wants ahead of next season.

Jesse Marsch will want a new striker through the door before he returns from Australia to give them time to gel, but it looks as though this particular pursuit is really going to drag out.

Let’s hope it is worth it.
