Leeds United now set to seal £5million Glen Kamara transfer from Rangers as deal reaches ‘closing stages’

Glen Kamara is set to join Leeds United after the deal for him to move from Rangers reached the “closing stages”, according to The Herald.

The Scottish paper reported on their website Monday (28 August) that the Ibrox midfielder will cost £5million as he is set to finally “clinch” his long-awaited move before the deadline.

The 27-year-old has been linked to an Elland Road switch throughout the second half of the transfer window, and the Whites were reported to have pushed ahead of competition from Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Coventry City in the past week.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday an “official bid” had been tabled to the Glasgow side with Kamara having already “accepted” the move.

And Phil Hay of The Athletic reported a day later that after “several weeks” of looking at the deal Leeds United now have the “necessary funds” to complete the move, which appears set to happen.

Ethan Ampadu has already been brought in from Chelsea this summer in a deal starting at £7million [BBC Sport], but the Welsh international is currently one of only three central midfield options along with teenagers Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi.

Long last

Finally tying up the deal to bring Kamara down from Scotland will be the latest in a series of positive developments for Daniel Farke in the closing days of a transfer window that has caused headaches for the German.

Following Tyler Adams’ deflating move to Bournemouth, to join a legion of loan exits, the Whites boss has seen big-money spent to land him a proven goalscorer in Joel Piroe, wantaway wingers Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra come back into the fold, and a first win of the Championship season secured away to Ipswich.

All three, plus club record signing Georginio Rutter with his first for the club, scored in the uplifting 4-3 victory to suggest that with the right additions to the side the early-summer hopes of a sustained push for promotion weren’t so fanciful.

Leeds United

Leeds United seem to be trying to make up for lost time in the market as they have fired out bids for central midfielders in various directions, and more than one looks to be on the cards with Kamara apparently most imminent.

Talks are also in progress with Tottenham to bring in Djed Spence on loan as recruitment figures seek to address weaknesses late in the day, so how many get done will be key.

The 49ers had been expected to make a splash once their takeover was completed but the ownership change instead largely saw one player after another make disappointing loan moves.

Fans were understandably panicked as the season got off to a rough start without enough fit options to fill the bench, but a late flourish could be set to change that with Piroe in, Kamara on the way, and the likes of Nadiem Amiri and Ao Tanaka also on the cards among others.

In other Leeds United news, there could still be one last departure from Elland Road before the window closes.
