Leeds United are finally on the verge of signing Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto this summer, according to Corriere Dello Sport on Saturday.
The Italian newspaper has reported in its print edition [20 August, pg. 18], that the Whites are now in a hurry to define all of the agreements with club and player.
Andrea Radrizzani is looking to get a deal over the line for his fellow countryman with Gnonto confirmed to be admired by those at Elland Road this week by Jesse Marsch.
Writing in their latest edition, Corriere Dello Sport reported that the Whites are the club pressing the hardest to get a deal over the line as soon as possible.
“The striker of the national team is in fact very close to Leeds, which in recent days has presented an offer on €5million [£4.2m] with bonuses to convince Zurich,” they wrote.
“Feyenoord was also interested in the Blue talent, but the British are now in a hurry to close and define all the agreements.”
Leeds are looking to get this one done as soon as possible, and that makes perfect sense.
Gnonto is being courted by other clubs in Europe, with more than just the mentioned Feyenoord said to be interested in the young Italian.
The jet-heeled attacker is certainly one for the future, but that doesn’t mean he will not be involved in the Premier League squad should he arrive at Elland Road.
Roberto Mancini has already seen enough to entrust the 18-year-old with senior international football, playing against England this summer and even scoring against Germany.
With Gnonto out of contract at the end of the season, the Whites won’t want to overpay, but they also don’t want to risk watching him slip through their fingers.
It looks as though Radrizzani has made sure Leeds are winning the race, and now he wan to use that to his advantage and sign off on the deal as soon as possible.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites now want to sign this striker with a rival set to kickstart a major £30million+ transfer battle
