Leeds United now expected to sign Senne Lammens in summer after advanced talks in January
Leeds United were heavily linked with a January move for Club Brugge goalkeeper Senne Lammens – and it would not be a surprise to see his Elland Road switch concluded in the summer.
The Belgium media outlet, HLN, (8 January, 9.07 am) claimed Lammens was in advanced talks with the Yorkshire side and that he was almost certainly heading to the Premier League. However, a move didn’t quite materialise in the January window.
Regardless, a summer move has always been in the offing for the 20-year-old Belgium under-21 international. He’s free to sign a pre-contract with whoever he wishes as his Club Brugge deal comes to a close, and it would not be a shock if Leeds tempt the goalkeeper when the summer window opens, or even before.
The Whites could well have more competition when it comes to the youngster. He will be a free agent in the summer, which means no transfer will be required. This could lead to a number of other clubs pinpointing the youngster as a good backup option for when the 2023/24 campaign gets underway.
With Joel Robles contracted to Leeds until the summer, a younger option certainly makes sense for Jesse Marsch moving forward. Illan Meslier has dramatically improved in recent years and is now viewed as one of Leeds’ biggest assets.
Bringing in another young keeper of a similar age could reap similar rewards for the Whites. Considering advanced discussions have been held, this is one we could certainly see happening over the course of the next couple of months in the lead-up to the summer window.
