Leeds United now confident of signing Servette defender Diogo Monteiro in January transfer window
Leeds United are reportedly confident of signing Servette defender Diogo Monteiro in the January transfer window.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post [23 January], it would come as no surprise if the 17-year-old was Yorkshire bound to finalise his signing.
The Whites are expected to secure his services after 28 January as that’s when he’ll turn 18 and will be eligible to feature for the Leeds.
Joe Donnohue reported last week that Brexit was complicating the deal but it now seems like it will get over the line.
One for the future
The Portugal youth international isn’t one for the first team just yet and we’re expecting him to be a regular in the Under-21s side.
Leeds have signed a number of quality young players in the past and they have been developed by the coaches at Thorp Arch.
A number of them have then been promoted to make their senior debuts under Marcelo Bielsa, especially during the major injury crisis last season.
We’re excited to see what Monteiro brings to the table and if he progresses well, we will not even be surprised if he is featuring for the senior team next season.
It’s important that the Whites also build for the future while they’re looking to strengthen their first team in this window.
Jesse Marsch has been backed with a good striker and left-back and the squad does have enough, it seems, to avoid getting relegated from the Premier League.
