Daniel Farke shares Wilfried Gnonto update, another ruled out – Leeds United team news vs Norwich City

Daniel Farke has shared an early team news update ahead of Wednesday’s (24 January) Championship clash between Leeds United and Norwich City.

The Whites head into the contest at Elland Road on a four-game winning run to begin 2024, most recently overcoming Preston North End 2-1 with a late winner at the weekend.

Farke confirmed at Tuesday’s (22 January) press conference, shared via Leeds’ official Twitter page, that there are no fresh injury concerns from that game.

The German coach confirmed that defender Pascal Struijk is still being monitored and will “hopefully return soon”, but he is not in contention to face Norwich.

However, in more positive news, Wilfried Gnonto is back in contention after a spell out with a hip flexor injury and may play a part from the bench.

“We’ll make a late decision, but he’s definitely not ready for the starting line-up,” Farke said. “I expect him to be back at the latest for the FA Cup game on Saturday.”

Leeds may have done it the hard way against Preston, but they got the job done to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

With some key players missing, the Whites have managed to string together win after win after win for their best run of form this campaign when also taking performances into account.

Having Gnonto back against Norwich will only bolster Farke’s options, but there is no need to rush the Italian back given the wealth of options available to Farke.

Struijk’s return will also be a massive boost when that eventually happens, which should be in the very near future.

Leeds United

Farke will be eager to keep this momentum going and close the gap on second-place Ipswich Town to two points in midweek, albeit having played a game more.

As we then enter the final stretch of the campaign, fingers crossed there is a full selection of players to choose from to help us over the line.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has responded to a transfer question regarding Gnonto’s future at Elland Road.
