Leeds United news round-up: Firpo update shared, official announcement made on duo
Leeds United have had a good time of it over the last couple of days as they managed to beat title rivals Sheffield United 3-1 on Monday.
The Whites are now five points clear at the top of the Championship table, seven clear of third, and seem to have one hand on the title.
Their win at Bramall Lane has resulted in two of Daniel Farke’s men being named in the EFL’s Team of the Week.
And, an interesting update has emerged about Junior Firpo as he enters the final few months of his contract at Elland Road.
Here, MOT Leeds News rounds up the latest news regarding the West Yorkshire outfit on 25 February.

Daniel Farke shares behind-the-scenes insight into what Chris Wilder did
Leeds took their game against the Blades down to the wire on Monday as they only managed to emerge victorious after a quick-fire double from Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe in the dying embers.
The first half was mostly dominated by Wilder’s men but in the second, the game got flipped on its head with Farke’s men on top of their Yorkshire rivals.
Team | Position | Points |
Leeds United | 1st | 75 |
Sheffield United | 2nd | 70 |
Burnley | 3rd | 68 |
After the game had ended, however, it seems that Wilder was gracious in defeat and waited to congratulate Farke and his men for the effort they put in to seal the three points.
“Chris waited in the tunnel to congratulate every one of my members of staff. Top quality person and the best manager Sheffield United could have at the moment,” Farke said.
Ally McCoist makes Leeds Premier League relegation prediction already
Given the Blades are second in the league and Leeds managed to beat them 3-1, the Whites are one step closer to earning Premier League promotion.
This was no doubt their main goal at the start of the campaign after the disappointing end to last season but Ally McCoist has pondered whether promotion would be the best thing for the Whites.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (25 February), he said: “Burnley defensively, it’s ridiculous. I think they’ve only lost nine goals in 30-odd games. It’s amazing.
“Right now, it’s as hard as it’s ever been for any team going up to stay up. So I’m just wondering which team would be more suited; [Burnley] with their defensive setup or Leeds.”
Farke’s men may already have one foot in the door but if they were to gain promotion he’d no doubt want an injection of quality to help remain in the top flight.

Joel Piroe and Ao Tanaka named in EFL Team of the Week
Joel Piroe and Ao Tanaka were at the heart of an impressive comeback for Leeds on Monday evening.
The duo netted the two goals in the dying embers of the game that earned the Whites all three points and further cemented their spot at the top of the Championship table.
So, it isn’t all that much of a surprise to see them both named in the EFL’s Team of the Week via their official X account (25 February).
While Tanaka has received plenty of praise for his performances this term, Piroe has been somewhat cast aside in terms of praise so it’s nice to see the Dutchman earn some recognition.
Firpo signs deal to make move to new agency
Firpo is now entering the final few months of his contract with Leeds.
A fair few clubs have already been linked with an interest in the left-back with La Liga side Real Betis the most prominent at the moment.
However, ahead of the expiry of his deal, it seems that the Dominican Republic international has signed with a new agency called You First.
The former Barcelona man is entering a pivotal moment in his career so it isn’t a surprise to see things getting put into motion already.
