Leeds United news round-up: Firpo contract update, surgery bombshell dropped

Leeds United are preparing for a return to Championship action against Watford on Tuesday.

This comes just days after the Whites fell to a 2-0 defeat against Millwall in the FA Cup fourth round after Daniel Farke heavily rotated his side.

Ahead of the clash away to the Hornets, the German head coach has shared multiple updates including the future of Junior Firpo at Elland Road.

MOT Leeds News rounds up all of the day’s main stories in one place.

Supercomputer updates Leeds United promotion chances

Last time out in the league, Leeds got one over on old-rival Frank Lampard, winning 2-0 against Coventry City to maintain their spot as the league leaders.

In the days after this victory at the Coventry Building Society Arena, the Opta Analyst’s supercomputer [10 February] awarded Leeds a 90.2 per cent chance of securing automatic promotion and a 68.58 per cent chance of winning the title.

This has decreased from directly after the result as the supercomputer initially awarded the Whites a 70.7 per cent chance of winning the league, with a 91.08 per cent chance of automatics.

Marcelo Bielsa ally makes ‘brutal’ admission

Diego Bermudez was a part of Marcelo Bielsa’s backroom staff at Elland Road, taking up a role as an analyst for between 2019 and 2022.

Looking back at his time in LS11, the Spaniard described Premier League football as “rapid” while also suggesting he felt a “brutal sense of belonging” at Leeds [La Voz de Galicia].

He went on to suggest that the Whites “have one of the best” fan bases after his experiences in the Premier League and was proud of his accomplishments in West Yorkshire.

Daniel Farke drops surgery bombshell ahead of Watford clash

Farke has revealed that Max Wober will require surgery to correct a knee injury which has been ongoing in recent weeks.

This will result in the Austria being out of action until after the March international break, after failing to make an appearance for the Whites since early January.

The German head coach confirmed this in his press conference on 10 February as he said: “Wober has this ongoing knee problem, another setback.

“He will need another surgery and we will do this as quick as possible. He will definitely be out until the next international break.”
