Leeds United news on Manchester United game drops on Friday - BBC journalist

Leeds United could face Manchester United twice in a week at the start of February, according to BBC journalist, Simon Stone.

The Whites are yet to face their fierce rivals in the 2022/23 campaign after the initial clash at Old Trafford was postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Stone has since reported (via Twitter, 20 January) that they are set to face each other twice in a week, providing neither side requires an FA Cup replay.

“If neither side needs an FA Cup fourth round replay, Man Utd will play Leeds at Old Trafford on Wednesday 8 February at 8.00pm. They play at Elland Road on Sunday 12 February,” wrote the BBC journalist.

Manchester United under the lights at Elland Road promises to be an exciting affair. We are all acutely aware of the hatred between the two sides and two games in the space of a week would be a tantalising prospect. Jesse Marsch will be hoping his team are in some sort of form at the start of February.

The midweek win over Cardiff City was one of Leeds’ better performances in the 2022/23 campaign and it’s now up to the American to find a consistent tune out of his players in the Premier League. This weekend’s clash against Brentford promises to be a tough test for the Whites.

Thomas Frank’s side are in fine form at the moment, having not lost a game in seven matches. The fixture at Elland Road is a golden opportunity for Leeds to pull away from the bottom three with West Ham United and Everton playing each other on Saturday.
