Leeds United news: LUFC Trust reacts to season tickets development

Pete Emmerson from LUFC Trust has reacted to the latest Leeds United development ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Whites have announced on 1 March, their season ticket prices for the following campaign without knowing if they’ll be a Premier League side or not.

They have also announced that even in the event of not getting promoted, there will be a price hike – the first in 11 years.

Speaking to BBC Sport West Yorkshire, Emmerson said: “We’ve been party to numerous discussions, as other fan groups have, with the club.

“Our initial reaction is not one to welcome price increases, particularly in this time of economic pressure on families.

“From there, we feel there has been consideration going into how they’ve actually come up with the numbers and we were pleasantly surprised that the increase in prices are going to be based on 22/23 prices rather than 23/24 so post rebate.

“That was something we didn’t expect. Hopefully, when there is an increase that softens the blow somewhat.”

Leeds United caught in a tough situation with fans

On one side of the argument, Leeds’ decision to increase season ticket prices, regardless of the team’s division status, may be seen as fair and necessary for the club’s financial stability.

The price hike, only the second in 11 years, reflects the rising costs associated with running a football club and could help generate additional revenue to invest in player recruitment, facilities and other areas.

Additionally, the introduction of tiered pricing based on tenure demonstrates an effort to reward long-standing supporters and maintain fairness among season ticket holders.

On the other hand, some fans may perceive the price increase as unwelcome, especially amidst economic challenges faced by many due to the pandemic.

While the club’s attempt to level out pricing among season ticket holders is commendable, some supporters facing larger increases may feel unfairly burdened.

Moreover, the decision to set prices without clarity on which division the team will compete in could be viewed as preemptive and lacking transparency, potentially alienating fans who may be hesitant to commit financially without knowing the club’s league status.
