talkSPORT host Jamie O'Hara took a swipe at striker Patrick Bamford in an on-air discussion about Leeds United.

Bamford scored a sublime goal for Leeds in their 3-0 FA Cup third-round win at Peterborough United on Sunday (7 January).

Former Tottenham midfielder O'Hara hailed that strike, but he followed that up by pointing out Bamford's goals record in the Premier League.

"What a goal. What a goal," O'Hara said on The Sports Bar [8 January, 11:57pm]. "Couldn't do it in the Premier League, though, could he?"

Short memory

The dipping volley scored by Bamford at the weekend has now gone viral on social media, with that his second goal in as many games in 2024.

After a hugely disappointing 2023 for the Englishman, perhaps this is the year he gets his Leeds United career back on track.

O'Hara was clearly referring to Bamford's return of six goals combined across the previous two Premier League campaigns.

However, he may need reminding that he 30-year-old scored 17 goals the season before, which only Bruno Fernandes (18), Mohammed Salah (22) and Harry Kane (23) could better.

There is no denying that Bamford has failed to live up to those heights since then, but his goal against Peterborough - and the strike against Birmingham City last week - will no doubt boost his confidence.

Leeds have plenty of work to do if they are to return to the Premier League, but if they do so, Bamford will be as eager as anyone to prove his doubters wrong.
