Leeds United confirm Georginio Rutter to undergo surgery as return timeframe set
Leeds United have announced that Georginio Rutter is to undergo surgery after withdrawing from international duty with France.
Rutter pulled out of Les Blues’ Under-21s squad on Monday (18 March) due to a hernia issue that he has been carrying for a number of weeks.
The 21-year-old will now undergo a minor procedure, which will only keep him out for roughly 10 days.
Leeds, who moved top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over Millwall at the weekend, confirmed the news in a statement on their official website on Monday (18 March).
Georginio Rutter injury news shared by Leeds United
The Leeds statement read: “Leeds United can confirm Georginio has been withdrawn from the France Under-21s squad and will undergo minor surgery.
“The forward has been suffering with a hernia problem for a number of weeks, which has been carefully managed, and the club will now use the international break to address the issue fully.
“Surgery allows a return to play in approximately 10 days and all being well, he could be in contention for the Easter Sky Bet Championship fixtures against Watford and Hull City.”
Leeds have been very smart with the timing of this procedure as, all going to plan, it means he will not miss any matches.
Thankfully, it sounds as though France were willing to let the player withdraw from duty knowing this surgery was best in the long term.
Rutter has been nothing short of sensational for the Whites this season, so having him available for the Watford match on 29 March is massive.

The Frenchman has assisted 15 goals in the Championship this season, which is the highest tally of any player in the division.
Despite clearly not being fully fit, Rutter has continued to impress in a Leeds shirt and has more than played his part in this promotion push.
Let us just hope that the procedure goes to plan and that he is able to start at Vicarage Road in 11 days’ time.
