Leeds United news: Due diligence claim as ex Rangers and Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard keen on Elland Road move

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard reportedly wants to manage Leeds United after his stints at Rangers and Aston Villa.

Former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones told Football Fancast [11 June] that the Whites still have to do their due diligence on the legendary former footballer.

It’s also understood that along with taking over at Elland Road, the Englishman is also open to managing Leicester City should they approach him.

Jones said, “It’ll be really interesting to see what happens with Steven Gerrard, who is very open to taking both the Leeds and the Leicester job and is keen to get back into work as soon as possible. I think at this stage, Leeds still have due diligence to do on the managerial front and who they appoint will be impacted by the ownership situation.”

Worth the punt?

If Gerrard is to be judged on his stint at Aston Villa, then obviously he’s failed at his first Premier League job and that brings up a massive red flag.

However, before moving to Villa Park, he was a resounding success at Rangers and managed to end Celtic’s stronghold on the SPFL title.

They were on the way to winning ten in a row until Gerrard’s side stopped them and went unbeaten for the entire campaign.

They also played good football with full-backs overlapping and attackers interchanging positions every now and then.

If Leeds get that Gerrard, he can certainly bring the best out of the talented young players at Elland Road and that could be enough to get them back to the Premier League.

If they want someone proven in the Premier League then Brendan Rodgers’ name springs to mind but he may have reservations about managing in the Championship.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering to bring in as manager this summer.
