Leeds United: Darren Bent predicts three promoted teams with surprise Leicester City verdict

Darren Bent has predicted Leeds United and Ipswich Town will earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

Leicester City currently sit top of the Championship, as they have done for most of the campaign, but Bent expects them to slip into the play-offs.

Leeds have been in superb form since the start of 2024 and can leapfrog Leicester at the top with a two-goal win against Millwall this weekend.

Asked who he thinks will finish in the top two, former Ipswich striker Bent said on talkSPORT Drive [15 March, 5:01pm]: “Ipswich and Leeds. Leicester will go up through the play-offs.”

Leeds United hot on Leicester City’s heels in Championship title race

Leicester have been top of the division for 26 of the 38 matchdays so far this season, yet somehow they are not assured of automatic promotion.

From being pretty much in a league of their own a month or so back to now looking over their shoulders, it has been quite the blip for City.

The Foxes have taken just four points from the past 15 on offer, yet in fairness they were near enough perfect up to that point.

Due to the timing of this loss of form, it brings an entirely different narrative. If they do not see the job out from here, they will be labelled ‘bottlers’.

That is harsh, but at the same time Leeds care not one bit. Whether it is first place or second, they are not prepared to settle for the play-offs.

The bottom line is that two of Leicester, Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton will have to do things the hard way.

Leeds will just be grateful that it is now in their own hands from this point on in this thrilling quest to earn a return to the Premier League.
