Leeds United: Graham Smyth shares what Daniel Farke did at full-time v QPR

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke embraced defender Luke Ayling after the full-time whistle sounded against QPR, according to journalist Graham Smyth.

The Whites were 1-0 winners at Elland Road on Wednesday [4 October] thanks to an early goal from Crysencio Summerville, lifting them up to sixth in the Championship.

Leeds fans saluted their players after a job well done, and Farke was quick to repay the favour after seeing his side extend their unbeaten run on home soil this term.

Pointing out some unseen moments from the match, Smyth wrote on the Yorkshire Evening Post‘s online edition [5 October]: “Farke with a big hug for Ayling at full-time.

“An affectionate pat on the face for [Georginio] Rutter before going to do the wave with the Kop.”

Fortress

On the back of losing 3-1 to Southampton last weekend – a game in which they trailed by three goals inside 35 minutes – Leeds were desperate to bounce back in front of their fans against QPR.

It was far from a vintage performance, but the one-goal victory was deserved all the same and United’s promotion push is now gathering some pace.

That is now back-to-back wins on home soil without conceding, and six games without defeat there in all competitions stretching back into last season.

Making Elland Road a fortress is going to be the key to Leeds’ hopes of sustaining this top-six push, and Farke was grateful for the support his side got from the stands against QPR.

With Bristol City next to arrive in West Yorkshire on Saturday [7 October], let’s hope this feel-good vibe can stretch into the international break.
