Leeds United: Daniel Farke likened to Marcelo Bielsa after ‘Immense’ comment today

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has been likened to Marcelo Bielsa by journalist Phil Hay for the way he answered a question regarding his selection of Joel Piroe.

Farke was once again asked at his pre-Bristol City press conference on Friday (6 October) why Piroe has been fielded in a number 10 position since arriving at Elland Road, rather than as the leading striker.

The German gave a long answer explaining his decision, adding that he has “won the league twice” and therefore knows “what is necessary” to get out of the division.

The Athletic reporter Hay praised Farke’s response on Twitter (6 October), saying: “You can’t really ask for a more detailed answer than that. It’s pretty much how Bielsa used to deal with burning topics of conversation.”

Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross added: “Farke’s answer on Piroe at 10 was immense. Gave us one of his first deep dives into his psyche and how he sees the game. So insightful and tremendous confidence in his own ability.”

Growing confidence

Farke has really come into his own in press conferences in recent weeks, which is likely down to the confidence a good run of form – the loss at Southampton aside – has brought.

The former Norwich City manager is right to point out his previous successes, with that ultimately the reason he was brought in following United’s relegation from the Premier League.

Piroe’s position in the side has been a hot topic of debate, especially after being very ineffective in back-to-back matches now, including in the 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers in midweek when substituted off after 65 minutes.

Ultimately, results will determine the mood around Elland Road. Right now, with the Whites in the play-offs, Farke can do no wrong.

Should things stay that way, Farke may just become as respected around these parts as Bielsa.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites youngster has been at the centre of a “very aggressive” approach for his services.
