Leeds United news as Phil Hay issues relegation release clause claim
Leeds United players do not have release clauses on loan as they did this summer for 12 months later if they do not get promoted, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reacted to the exodus at Elland Road this summer due to the number of players leaving on loan.
They had clauses in their contract that allowed them to leave the club for a season provided their new side paid the entirety of their wages.
Speaking on the Square Ball at 13:08 on 14 August, Hay said, “Well, I don’t think it will be the same next summer because the relegation clauses, I don’t believe will apply next summer. It’s been tough for them to dig out significant transfer cash. It’s not an easy situation to turn around.”
Relief
As things stand, this Leeds side does not look to be, in shape or form, ready to secure promotion at the first time of asking.
They’re down to bare bones and need serious reinforcements in the coming weeks to ensure that they manage to finish in the top six.

Before the summer began, top two would’ve been the target and right now, it feels like even the top six is bit of a stretch.
The quality in this Leeds squad is akin to a mid-table Championship team and the 49ers know that they’re gonna have to shell out a lot more money in order to make this side worthy to return to the Premier League.
It’s a relief that the ridiculous loan clauses do not exist and that can allow Leeds to make money from some of the players leaving, but they do not want to find themselves in those positions next summer.
In other Leeds United news, the club could look to rekindle their interest in a Golden Boot winner who Daniel Farke will love and it will take £15million to get the deal done.
