Leeds United news as Chelsea stance emerges on failed Tyler Adams transfer move

Chelsea pulled out of a move to sign Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams as they were concerned his recovery from a hamstring injury may be longer than expected, according to the Daily Mail.

The online report (12 August) claims tests completed by Chelsea during medical checks revealed that the American star’s recovery may require another four months – and that led to the club’s decision to back away.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported on Friday 11 August that Adams was already in London to complete his Stamford Bridge move but had travelled back to West Yorkshire ahead of the weekend because the Blues chose to prioritise a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo after he declared he wanted to join them instead of Liverpool.

Hay reported that the move had “fallen through” as Chelsea were “no longer signing him” with which the Daily Mail has reported that Chelsea backed away because of doubts over his current hamstring injury after a dramatic Friday saga.

Adams drama

Just when many believed Chelsea had pulled away from the Adams transfer because of Caicedo’s stance to join them instead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, it’s now been revealed that his injury troubles was the real reason which is perfectly understandable.

However, that could spell good news for Daniel Farke and Leeds United, with an Elland Road stay a real possibility right now.

And should the American international’s £20m release clause be triggered by another club in the coming weeks, the same medical issues could emerge.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke would be absolutely delighted to get the USMNT captain back for the Championship season, with the Whites desperate for experience and quality in the middle of the park.

Adams remains the perfect solution to their midfield issues but after this new report, he could still be out for a while yet which suggests that Leeds United must still chase up an experienced midfielder to sure to bolster Farke’s ranks ahead of a gruelling Championship promotion fight this season.

Anything can happen in football, and a small number of the Leeds United support won’t be closing the door on the possibility of Adams remaining in West Yorkshire just yet.

In other Leeds news, the 49ers may have no option but to let cash fly for one potential Adams replacement.
