Newcastle want to sign hotshot Leeds striker on Farke’s radar

Leeds United are closing in on a Premier League return, but they may be facing an uphill battle to keep some of their finest talent at Elland Road during the summer transfer window.

Despite dropping points in three of their last four games, the Whites sit top of the Championship table with just eight games left to play.

Ahead of the current international break, Daniel Farke’s side lost 1-0 at Portsmouth and were held to a 2-2 draw by QPR either side of a home victory over Millwall.

But their goal difference is superior to that of second-place Sheffield United, while the Whites are still two points clear of third-place Burnley.

Newcastle United eye Leeds academy starlet

Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool on Sunday epitomised the new-found ambition and success the Tynesiders have enjoyed under Eddie Howe.

The Magpies now have one eye on the future and are reported interested in signing Leeds starlet and England Under-17 international Harry Gray, according to TBR Football.

TBR’s report has also revealed interest from fellow top-flight sides Arsenal and Tottenham, who his older brother Archie plays for.

Farke and Leeds set for Gray transfer blow

Gray is one of the Leeds academy’s most prized assets, and recently impressed when he scored during their 3-0 win over Birmingham’s Under-21s last Friday.

He featured in pre-season for Farke’s senior squad but subsequently faced a spell on the sidelines courtesy of back problems.

The fact that he is still just 16 years old, but has already been in Farke’s thinking indicates just how talented he is, and that he could be capable of following in the footsteps of older brother Archie Gray in becoming a star at Elland Road.

Archie Gray was one of Leeds’ best players last term and deservedly earned his move to Premier League Tottenham, where he has subsequently shone.

The Whites would be devastated to lose Harry Gray to a current top-flight club before he has made a senior appearance for the club, but interest in his services from the likes of Newcastle could prove difficult to stave off.
