Leeds United: Newcastle United formulate £23.8m bid for Jack Harrison

Newcastle United are readying a bid worth £23.8million to try and sign Leeds United winger Jack Harrison, according to Tutto Mercato.

The Magpies have been on the 25-year-old’s trail for much of this summer transfer window but only now are preparing to make an offer to sign the Whites’ second top scorer from the 2021-22 season.

But if Eddie Howe wants Harrison in his squad at St James’ Park next season, then a much bigger offer is likely to be needed as Leeds United want £35.7million to allow him to leave.

Jesse Marsch is not convinced of selling the Stoke-on-Trent-born player just yet though with the 2021-22 campaign his first as an official Leeds player following three years of loan spells from Manchester City.

His 10 goals in all competitions last season proved vital in keeping the club in the Premier League including a stunning hat-trick away at West Ham United.

Pitiful

There might not have been an offer as pointless as this one in many years of big-money transfers and Leeds should rightfully reject this approach outright, without any kind of negotiation.

The only time a team could sign a player for £12million less than the valuation put on him is if it is a deal worth more than £100million which makes incremental gaps larger by nature.

Everyone knows that the Toon now have money to burn after their Saudi Arabian takeover in November so the Whites and every other team are going to get the most out of them they possibly can.

But at the same time, Newcastle are not helping themselves by making such pitiful offers such as this one and they can’t expect anyone to play ball if they don’t make a realistic attempt.

Until an offer of at least £28million arrives from the North East, Victor Orta should ignore anything that is put in front of him.

In other Leeds United news, the end could be near for this attacker with Orta prepared to let him go on a loan-to-buy basis if a suitable offer comes in.
